Doug is not exagerating when he speaks of changing the way we "do food" nationally and globally, by turning to locals and neighbor with which to trade. Friends of this food philosophy seem to be growing across several different social strata. Buy local and fan the flames by talking about it and educating others on the merits of this method!

Salitin says more CSAs benefit each CSA, not threaten it. As they become more common, people using them becomes normal - just like going to the grocery currently is normal.
Great work on collaboration guys!!!

Tonight I left opinions on the Env. Lit./Philosophy page under some rather old posts that seems somewhat pertinent to this discussion. I, too, am enthusiastic about these new approaches to food, and I'm trying to piece together an overall social-political philosophy and plan of action which could create conditions for local economies to thrive. I alluded to a proponent of radical deregulation (Ron Paul) as a potential friend in policy. However, we may need more regulation instead, but it would take a lot more to convince me of that. Look forward to more of your ideas.

Your frustration is shared. But Wendell Berry is good consolation. And I think Yokna bottom farms and other CSAs are enacting a crucial part of vision. It could be a really real game changer if the dual party stagnation were broken down and folk like Ron Paul or even others with different, yet radically local notions of community and justice were in office with a congress which was willing to work with him/her. As great a step as CSAs are (and I'm considering starting one here in MS that's at least 40 miles from the closest other one), it is going to take other localization efforts to create a level of self-sufficiency that at least Wendell, Ron, and I desire. (I don'treally deserve to me mentioned in the same sentence with those two men I admire so thouroughly).

Peace in the Valley.
